Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC)
As of the 2021-22 school year, Colorado Preschool Program (CPP) provided funding for up to 29,360 positions in 176 districts across the state. In 2022, the Colorado Legislature passed House Bill 22-1295, which laid the foundation for the state’s new Universal Preschool Program, and initiated a new Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC). The implementation of a universal program for 4-yearolds in the year prior to kindergarten will usher in a new era for early childhood education in the state of Colorado in the fall of 2023. This new statewide preschool program launched July 1, 2023, at which time, the Colorado Preschool Program will sunset. The high quality preschool services achieved through the Colorado Preschool Program have impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of children, and CDE commits to partner with the new CDEC and the Colorado Universal Preschool Program to realize positive outcomes for Colorado’s youngest learners. Colorado Kidsight
The Colorado Lions KidSight Vision Program works with young children throughout Colorado to make sure they can see clearly! This is one year old Tivoli and her mother Beth who are from Castle Rock, Colorado. In the picture Tivoli is wearing her glasses for the very first time! Tivoli was born with a severe eye condition where the blood vessels are too tight in the eye. This condition caused two detached retinas which required surgery. Tivoli needs glasses and even with the glasses will continue to have vision issues. She attends the Anchor Center for the Blind one day a week to participate in their programs. KidSight was able to provide these glasses at no cost for Tivoli. We would especially like to thank Dr. Lawrence Jacobs, an optometrist and a Lion from the Highlands Ranch Lions Club who helped to fit Tivoli with her glasses.
In 2021 the Colorado Lions KidSight Vision Program celebrated twenty years of helping Colorado’s young children through vision screening and follow-up. We also provide resources for those in need through eye exams and glasses. Your donation helps us to continue to provide these services across the state.
Your financial support helps us to continue to screen children in Colorado. You can help us today by donating to Colorado Gives.
